Recorded in June 1983
Between 1982 and 1984, Michel Petrucciani made three remarkable solo-piano albums:
– Oracle's Destiny (1982), made for Jean-Jacques Pussiau's Owl label, based in France;
– 100 Hearts (1984), the debut recording in The George Wein Collection, a short-lived collaboration between the impresario and Carl Jefferson's Concord label; subsequently, the album was reissued on Blue Note; and
– Note'n Notes (1984), Petrucciani's final release for the Owl label.
I think all three of these are extraordinary. And it's hard to believe that these masterful recordings were made by man who was barely in his 20s.
