This album captures Nat Adderley's stellar quintet at the Keystone Korner in 1982 playing a terrific blend of hard-bop and soul-jazz.
The title cut is a gorgeous, introspective ballad by Larry Willis. (See the YouTube link below. It's the only cut from the album that I could find on the internet.) The entire album combines excellent compositions with superb, idiomatic musicianship.
Incidentally, this is the second album from this Keystone Korner engagement. I've never heard the first, titled On the Move (Theresa/Evidence, 1983). Given the excellence of Blue Autumn, I can't imagine it's anything other than outstanding.
Yes, On the Move is just as strong as Blue Autumn. Two more Larry Willis compositions and three by Nat. I think that Willis and Sonny Fortune shine as brightly, or more so, than the leader, but I don't think anyone could complain about that. It's supposed to happen that way. This is jazz!!
