These are powerhouse performances by one of Woody Shaw's finest working bands.

Less than two months after making Lotus Flower, Shaw's newly-formed quintet (augmented by vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson), recorded two LPs for Elektra Musician, Master of the Art and Night Music.  Although both of these are very fine, neither quite captures the crackling energy of this Enja release.
