Stan Getz - Blue Skies (Concord, 1995)

This post is by Scott

Stan Getz (ts); Jim McNeely (p); Marc Johnson (b); Billy Hart (d)

Recorded in January 1982

The music is so beautiful that it's difficult to write about.  When I listen, the words that come to mind sound absurd, impossibly elevated.  Words like:

Intoxicating.

Otherworldly.

Sublime.

Extraordinary.

Suffice it to say, if I'm taking one Stan Getz recording to my proverbial desert island, it's Blue Skies.

More Stan Getz
Getz recorded prolifically during the 1980s.  I think each of the following albums are exceptionally good:
  • The Dolphin (Concord)
  • Spring Is Here (Concord)
  • Pure Getz (Concord)
  • Poetry (Elektra Musician)
  • Voyage (Black Hawk)
  • Anniversary! (EmArcy)
  • Serenity (EmArcy)
  • Bossas & Ballads: The Lost Sessions (Verve)
  • Soul Eyes (Concord)
  • Apasionado (A&M)
